Jan Hanus (1915-2004) without a doubt ranks among the most prominent figures of Czech musical culture in the post-war period.  In his output (over 120 opuses), the composer often draws on various literary works.  Almost every category of composition is represented among his works, many of which are overtly political, expressing anti-Nazi, anti-Fascist and anti-Communist sentiments.
