Kalabis Suite for Oboe and Piano (Dudacka - Bagpiper) Op.11

Viktor Kalabis (1923-2006), one of the most outstanding composers of 20th century Czech music, composed five symphonies and many other orchestral works, as well as nine solo concertos for various instruments.  He was passionate about chamber music, writing seven string quartets and a number of works for various instrumental combinations or solo instruments.

The suite for oboe and piano "Dudácká" Op.11 from 1953 is a fresh work inspired by folklore.  Its clear expression, which is matched by the very precise titles of the individual movements, its technical simplicity and accessible diatonic musical language make it one of the favourite recital repertoires of young performers.

The present edition is a reissue of the 2nd edition of the work (Supraphon, 1969).
