Karl Marx (1897-1985) was a German composer and music teacher.  Born in Munich he took music lessons early but it was only after military service and imprisonment (1914-1917) that he took lessons with Carl Orff which led him to take serious music studies.  He studied and eventually taught in Munich and Graz before moving to the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart in 1946 to teach composition and theory and in 1955 was made head of the school music department.

He was primarily a composer for voice but nevertheless made significant contributions to school music in Germany.
